Lego Star Wars Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet (75274) Review

The LEGO Star Wars Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet is the last one in the series. This helmet is also regarded by many as the best of the series.

It is an iconic helmet from the original Star Wars trilogy but is it compared to the Stormtrooper and Boba Fett up to par? It looks really good and I liked building this very much, but calling it the best? I’m not so sure.

The Build

The Tie Fighter Pilot helmet has by far the most interesting building techniques of all three helmets. And that has everything to do with the tubes on the lower part of the helmet that are incredibly well integrated into the model.

Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet Front

This set even has 6 bags, instead of the usual 5 and starts out quite different than the Stormtrooper and Boba Fett. It seems to be much more intricate and even building the stand has a different approach.

As said before this has everything to do with those eye-catching tubes. They need to come out of the mask and will wrap around into the stand.

I really like this as it makes the Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet different and engaging. You’d expect this to be very similar to the Stormtrooper but it’s really not. LEGO thought this one through!

The overall look of the model is again excellent but strangely enough, it feels too studded on the side. Which is weird because both Boba Fett and the Stormtrooper also had studs all over the side. Yet they don’t feel too studded if you know what I mean.

Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet Side

Personally I think it’s because of a lack of detail on the side and back of the Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet. It has two rounded plates on the side and that’s it. This makes it feel like it’s not as detailed in this area.

Also, the color is black. Which is really cool! But it also makes the model feel slightly boring and less recognizable. Luckily there are two big printed Imperial logos on top of the helmet to give it that needed variation. If those weren’t there it would’ve almost looked like a black ball on a stand.

Features

In this case, there are the same amount of features as the Stormtrooper Helmet has. Other than the nameplate none really. The set also has some stickers, but nothing major.

Tie Fighter Pilot Helmet Detail

It has two, so don’t sweat it!

What stands out the most on the helmet are the tubes which really give it that iconic look.

My Thoughts

This LEGO Star Wars Tie Fighter Pilot helmet is maybe the best build in terms of techniques of the series. The tubes running from the mouth to the stand are amazing. Unfortunately, the biggest flaw is the color. It’s all black with really no other colors to create a better contrast when displaying this model. You really need to have either a room with much natural light or proper lighting on the set itself.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great build and looks amazing especially when displayed together with the Stormtrooper and Boba Fett. But in my opinion, it’s not as recognizable. Not in popularity nor in detail. Especially on the side of the helmet.

What do you guys think is the best helmet? Let me know in the comments!

Pros:

  • Great for displaying
  • Tubes are awesome
  • Best technical build
  • The most amount of prices in the series

Cons:

  • Not a playset
  • Not as recognizable
  • A bit too black
